DeGrazia
Elementary
School's
12th Annual Ancient Egypt Night
(a 6th grade Ancient Egypt
unit)
The
DeGrazia Sixth Grade has completed a five week unit of study on
Ancient Egypt. Students learn how the ancient Egyptian people's
interaction with the environment of the Nile River Valley resulted
in the creation of the world's first civilization. Students study
the art, architecture, religion, history, hieroglyphic writing, and
customs of the ancient Egyptians. Learning to paint in the ancient
Egyptian style and to write in hieroglyphics students build a
replica of a tomb from the Valley of the Kings as a culminating
activity. Students make plaster body casts of classmates and
paint the casts to resemble mummy cases. The mummy cases are shown
in the picture to the left. Students decorate the tomb walls
and ceiling with tomb art. The tomb was presented on November 1,
2006. Parents and visitors were impressed with the quality and the
authenticity of the students' work.
Below is a picture tour of some of the
student artwork from the tomb from various school years. Please
visit and enjoy this fine project constructed by the students of
the DeGrazia Sixth Grade.
