Energy Conservation Program
Marana schools earn national recognition
2015-2016 school year: All 16 schools earned the prestigious U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR Certification, a recognition presented to the most energy efficient buildings in the country. This number represents the largest number of buildings certified within a single organization in Arizona over the past five years.
Much like an appliance in the home earns the ENERGY STAR certification; buildings are also awarded certification for energy efficiency. Buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR have met strict energy performance standards, use 35 percent less energy, and generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emission than similar buildings across the nation.
District Employees Are Saving Money...Over $1,000,000!
Unified School District embraces energy conservation
and believes it is their responsibility to ensure that every reasonable effort
is made to conserve energy and natural resources while exercising sound
In the fall of 2013 District Administration and Governing Board
members took a proactive step in good stewardship of budgeted funds and energy by
embarking on a comprehensive energy conservation and management program with
Cenergistic. Cenergistic’s award-winning energy conservation programs have
saved more than $3.2 billion for educational, healthcare and ministerial
organizations across the nation. Their powerful, proven program turns
recommendations into real savings, changing behavior by reducing consumption of
electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and water.
As of September 2016, the District has saved over $1,000,000. This equates to 1,011 passenger cars not driven for one year or planting 124,451 tree seedlings for 10 years!
Risk Free - No Increase to Budget - No New Equipment
This comprehensive, rigorous energy conservation and management program is sustainable and will save significant money during challenging economic times while doing something positive for the environment. This is not a short-term “green project.”
The illustration above depicts the significant reduction in energy consumption in comparison to previous years.
Every dollar not spent on energy is a dollar saved for education.
In 2014 the Marana Unified School District received the TEP BrightEE award for their outstanding commitment to energy efficiency. A variety of energy efficiency measures included the installation of compact fluorescent lamps, delamping of existing fixtures, installation of LED exit signs, and installation of new premium T8 lamps and T5 fixtures. Additionally, two new water-cooled chillers were installed along with variable speed drives on motors.
