MUSD Highlights School Success in ADE Letter Grades

  • Happy Graduation Hug(November 1, 2022) After two years of no Letter Grades from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), the official letter grades for Marana Unified School District show success and significant improvements on behalf of our schools.

All MUSD schools received passing grades with no D’s or F’s, and 13 of 17 schools improved their scores. This is also the highest number of schools to receive an "A" rating - six - in the history of the District.

“We are incredibly proud of our schools’ performance as captured in the State’s letter grades report,” said Dr. Dan Streeter, superintendent. “This is an incredible endeavor following two challenging years of shifting educational models as we navigated the pandemic. While we will continue to use data to evaluate and refine daily practices, these figures indicate that our  school leaders and teachers are focused on the right activities that promote student success and achievement.”

Student in 3D z-Space ClassOn October 31, ADE released A-F School letter grades based on data from the 2021-22 school year. The Letter Grade system measures student proficiency and annual growth in key areas including English Language Arts, Math, Science, and literacy as well as readiness to transition to the next step in their education or career. Other factors such as performance on standardized tests, attendance, special education inclusion, college and career readiness reports, and high school graduation rates are included in the score.

While the letter grade system gives districts insight into academic performance based on specific state assessments, it does not provide a complete snapshot of each school. For example, it does not take into account other measures of academic performance, learning and success within classrooms and schools, nor does it consider the unique programs and characteristics of each school, satisfaction of students, staff and parents, school culture, or other significant accomplishments.

The A through F accountability system is one tool to help schools identify areas for improvement, to help families understand how their student’s school is performing, and provides data for the state of Arizona to determine how to better utilize resources for schools needing additional support.
