Resource Reading Program
The Resource Reading department works with students who could benefit from extra assistance in helping to develop their reading fluency, comprehension, and word study skills. Students in resource reading will typically have 30 minutes a day with their Resource Reading teacher. Instruction consists of small group instruction, individualized instruction, and computer assisted instruction. Students are exited from the program when they have developed the skills needed in reading fluency, comprehension, and word study skills. The Resource Reading teachers are directly serving as many of these students as possible whose test scores and classroom teachers' evaluation indicates a need for intensive interventions.

As part of monitoring students' progress in learning to read well, we use a short reading assessment, called DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) to all students in Kindergarten through third grade. These Benchmark assessments are given three times a year- in August, December and May.
Data on student progress is regularly charted, and is entered using the DIBELS computer management system that was developed initially at the University of Oregon. This data allows us to monitor student progress in reading literacy.
