    Definition of Course Types:

Direct Instruction Courses are offered during the school day by a highly qualified teacher at MCAT in the content area of the course. Students are enrolled
in these courses for the entire 9 or 10 week Quarter, and receive credit at the end of the course when they demonstrate mastery of the content according to the teacher’s assessment of their knowledge.

Gradpoint, Aventa and Marana Distance Learning courses are all online based independent study courses. Students are expected to complete these courses on their own timeline, using the computer provided instruction, but typically within an 8 week time period. Credit is given when students complete and pass the required components of the online course.

Independent Study Courses are packet based and are coordinated by a teacher at MCAT. Students are issued the required materials and when they complete the work they request the final exam. When students show mastery of the content and pass the final exam they are given credit for these courses. Typically Independent Study Courses are completed in 5-7 weeks.
