MUSD Employee Illness Protocol for COVID-19

To ensure the health and safety of MUSD students and employees, we will follow CDC, ADHS, and Pima County Health Department (PCHD) guidance in response to exposure or transmission of COVID-19. MUSD employees are expected to follow prevention strategies to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, such as wearing a face covering, maintaining social distance, and practicing hand hygiene.

An employee who is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms should:
- Not report to work.
- Notify their immediate supervisor.
- Consider being tested for COVID-19.
- Isolate at home and await further guidance from their supervisor.
- The employee’s supervisor may contact the Health Services Director, or the Human Resources Director for assistance.
- The employee may be encouraged to contact their physician for management of symptoms or for further recommendations if deemed necessary.

An employee who develops symptoms during the workday should:
- Notify their supervisor.
- Leave their worksite.
- Supervisor may send employee home if signs of illness are evident.
- Consider being tested for COVID-19.
- Isolate at home and await further guidance from their supervisor.
- The employee’s Supervisor may contact the Health Services Director, or the Human Resources Director for assistance.
- The employee may be encouraged to contact their physician for management of symptoms or for further recommendations if deemed necessary.

Administrative process:
- When an employee’s supervisor becomes aware of an employee’s exposure to or confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, the Supervisor must notify the Health Services Director or Human Resource Director.
- An evaluation of an employee’s risk, potential exposure of others in the workplace, recommendation for quarantine or isolation, and subsequent clearance to return to work will be completed by HR Director or HS Director.
- MUSD will provide recommendations in accordance with ADHS Quarantine and return from Isolation guidelines with respect to all suspect and confirmed COVID-19 cases. The current guidelines can be found here.
- MUSD will report all positive COVID-19 cases to Pima County Health
Department and will collaborate with PCHD in contact tracing efforts. - A supervisor may request a medical clearance as a condition to return to work at the end of the isolation period.
- A supervisor cannot require an employee take another COVID-19 test as a condition to return to work.
