School-wide Expectations

  • Throughout the Marana Unified School District all schools follow an integrated behavior system, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS). This system is the application of positive interventions and system changes to achieve socially important behavior changes. It is instrumental in teaching students respect, responsibility, and accountability from an early age. As part of PBIS, every school establishes clear expectations for the behavior expected in all classrooms and areas of school. Students are explicitly taught these expectations, and schools apply positive reinforcement and consistent consequences.

At DeGrazia these are Act Safely, Respect Everyone and Everything, and Take Responsibility or (ART) in honor of being named after the artist Ted DeGrazia.

Students are regularly recognized at student assemblies and other events for demonstrating these positive behaviors and different monthly character traits aligned to these (i.e. Developing Citizenship). Daily ART card recognitions and prizes are distributed when students are observed doing something that exemplifies these behaviors. DeGrazia faculty and staff consistently encourage students to embrace making good choices that follow the ART Code both at school and when they are out and about in the community.
