21st Century Afterschool Classes

Estes Elementary is proud to be a 21st Century Community Learning Center! Our school offers amazing afterschool high-quality academic intervention and enrichment activities for students along with a broad array of youth development opportunities and parent engagement at no cost.
Our program provides opportunities for students to engage in new and exciting learning opportunities and explore their personal interests, recreational and intellectual topics that are often not available during the school day while being able to forge new relationships with friends.
The Soaring Eagle Academy afterschool program is funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the Arizona Department of Education. For more information visit the Arizona Department of Education website.

Growing Girls
UofA Public Health is back with our favorite year round club for just 5th-6th grade girls. Girls discuss healthy identity values, how to maintain smart friendships with their peers. Girls reflect on society standards and how they can establish their own strong identity and values all while coping with the world around them. (5th-6th grade girls).This includes a spring field-trip to the UofA. Class is from 2-4pm (parent pickup only) but students may leave early for the bus at 3pm.

GAME
UofA Public Health created GAME just for our young men at Estes. This is a year round club. This class partners physical activities with team building concepts and lessons. GAME helps our guys reflect and set their own standards of what it means to be a gentleman in today's world. Students learn to be independent, kind, and reflective on what healthy relationships with their peers and at home should look like and how they are a key ingredient in that process. (5th-6th grade boys) This includes a spring field-trip to the UofA. Class is from 2-4pm (parent pickup only) but students may leave early for the bus at 3pm.

STEM Stars Class
STEM stars is our fun-filled class full of STEM activities that are catered to younger students. 10 weeks of builds, challenges and creative challenges that will be sure to get your students excited about STEM. From marble mazes, chromatography, bubble blower challenges it’s going to be fun! (K-3rd).

Eagle Choir
Estes students learn a variety of songs to perform at school functions and even a few outside in our local community. Choir also learns to accompany their songs on the ukulele creating fun harmonies while learning a variety of chords. Join this year round club in jump out into the spotlight with Estes Choir. (K-6th)

Country Line Dance
Kick up your heels in true western fashion in Country Line Dance class. Students will learn a variety of the funnest country line dancing. There will even be a small performance during our showcase night in the fall. Come get western while stay fit while having a blast getting your dance on. (K-6th)

Computer Science Storytelling
Using CS First Students use programming to create storylines where characters speak to each other, create interactive scenes, and then the total package of programmed dynamic storytelling. (4th-6th) (3-4pm Student must have a 2-3pm class scheduled and then transition to this class PARENT PICKUP ONLY)

Key to Music
Come start to discover music genres and the order in which they developed and from what part of the world they originated. Learn what makes classical/opera music classical/opera? Learn to dissect a song to understand its meaning and purpose.What makes jazz music jazz? How does it make you feel when you listen to it? Listen to songs of when pop was barely starting to develop next to today’s pop music. How has it changed? These are just a few things that Ms. Novela discusses and asks in this amazing music history class. (3rd-6th) 2-4pm Parent PICKUP ONLY students may leave early to catch the 3pm activity bus if needed.

Eagle Eye Archery Club
NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) certified instructors provide students with archery skills that will challenge and yet create a love for the sport. Come aim high with Eagle Eye Archery club (4th-6th)

JumpTeam
Join this year round club that takes fitness seriously fun in this choreographed fun class. Jump Team does perform at our school and at other schools during the school year. (Tryout approval required) 2-4pm Parent PICKUP ONLY students may leave early to catch the 3pm activity bus if needed.

Clever Cricut
Mrs. Blackstock is here to make you customized wizards. Create custom cards, creative decals, tricked out tee-shirts all with our Cricut Air 2’s in this fun class. (3rd-6th) 2-4pm Parent PICKUP ONLY students may leave early to catch the 3pm activity bus if needed.

3D Forge
Join this Tuesday and Thursday 3D printing class. Students learn all the steps to design, program and create from our 3D printers. Come dream 3 dimensionally while challenging your creative skills in this fun class. (3rd-6th)

Joy Calm Yoga
Join us to become your best young yogi! Learn the basics of yoga through breathing, stretching, visualizing, and meditation. (K-6th)

Lego Robotics Coding/Ozobots
Love to Code? Mr. Atkins teaches how to code Lego Robots to perform a variety of competitive challenges. Code Ozobots through mazes and more in this coding class. (3rd-6th)

Machado’s 6th Grade Success
Mrs. Machado is here to help struggling students head straight to success with this tutoring class. This tutoring class helps students get extra support in weekly skills and classwork. Priority will be given to teacher recommended students (6th grade only)

Free Form Art
Ms. Missy takes our younger students through a variety of artistic travels in free form art. Each week students explore their artistic style with multitudes of mediums in this exploratory art class. (K-2)

Basaldua’s 4th Grade Masters
Mrs. Basaldua wants every 4th grade student to feel like they are mastering their day. This is a tutoring class for students that need help mastering weekly skills. Priority will be given to teacher recommended students (4th grade only)

Student Council

Come join us in the garden this season. Students will learn to plant, feed and maintain our school garden. We explore what pollinators are, how composters are essential and so much more in this fun class. (K-6th)

The Folded Crane
Origami is a fun way to be creative through folding paper. Many different designs can be created from simple star to an intricate dragon. It just takes a little patience, focus, and precision to turn a single sheet of paper into an amazing folded sculpture! (2nd-6th)

Sewzillas
Join Ms. Cathy in our Advanced Sewing class. Come sew to your heart’s content in this class. Students will learn to quilt, build bags and a variety of other sew neat crafts!
Students need to have mastered basic machine skills to join this class. (3rd-6th)

Ms. Missy unplugs our young Eagles from all of today’s technology and highlights the joys of the amazing board games we’ve all learned to love. Students try a new board game each week, falling in love with the interaction that only comes from these fun games. (K-3rd)

Grab your passports kids because you’re about to go on a journey all around the zoo with this fun filled craft class that highlights all the animals that the zoo has to offer. (K-2nd)

Join Mr. Atkins in this fun Run Club. Coach takes us through a variety of techniques to increase our endurance and master our best speed all while having a blast. (3rd-6th)

That’s right, floor hockey is back! TGA sports is here to teach each or our hot weathered students all the ins and outs of hockey without any of that cold stuff to get in the way. (2nd-6th)

Lead By Example
Leadership Club will help students become resourceful and service-minded agents of change working collectively toward a common good in their present and future lives. Mrs. Machado leads the charge in helping our students to build character, boost resiliency, promote a sense of purposefulness, to be proactive, to instill a sense of belonging and connectedness to peers, to belong to the school community, to develop leadership skills, promote awareness and tolerance of other people, other cultures and societies. (5th-6th)

Competition Eagle Archery
NASP certified instructors teach our students archery mastery skills with the intention to prepare students to compete in local and regional competitions. This program at this level is in its infancy. If you make it on the team you will be in for both sessions, pending you do not break the social or attendance contract sent home the first day of class. Our program will be providing the approved Genesis bows and arrows to tryout and to practice and compete (so no purchase there). The dates of the fall competition have not been released yet, when we have those...you'll have those:) (12:45-2:45) Parent PICKUP ONLY (tryout approval only)
