Thornydale Elementary has partnered with a Tucson program entitled Ben’s Bells. This program's mission is "to inspire, educate and motivate each other to realize the impact of intentional kindness and to empower individuals to act according to that awareness, thereby strengthening us, our relationships and our communities." Kind Kids is a branch of the Ben's Bell which was founded when a local family experienced the tragic loss of their toddler son Ben in 2002. This family slowly began to heal while helping our city learn about grief, healing and hope. Ben's Bells is locally recognized through flower shaped kindness coins, bells, and Be Kind bumper stickers. The impact of this program has grown in the last 10 years, with some of our soldiers receiving a kindness bell while serving our country in Iraq. We are a Kind Kids campus. “Kind Kids is an innovative outreach program to K-8 schools which serves to educate and inspire children to recognize the importance of kindness and empowers them to create a culture of kindness in their school and beyond.” Thornydale students are celebrated for kindness in their classrooms and assemblies. Staff recognizes each other. Through Target Field Trip grants each classroom will visit Ben’s Bells this school year to learn more about their mission and make bells and coins for distribution.
