Growing up in Marana Unified School District shaped so much of who I am today.

One of my favorite memories as a student was in Mr. Moore’s sixth grade class at DeGrazia. We created Egyptian sarcophaguses as part of a project, and I remember being so proud of what I made. Years later, as a sixth grade teacher myself, I had the opportunity to complete that very same project with my own students. It was such a full-circle moment, standing in my classroom watching them create, just like I once did.

At Mountain View High School, English with Ms. Beach was my favorite class. We completed a project researching colleges, and that assignment made me start thinking seriously about my future and what I wanted to accomplish.

Girls basketball at MVHS was also a huge part of my life. I played all four years under Coach Melchiori from 1999 to 2003. I wasn’t the most talented player on the court, but she saw something in me and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. It was an honor to play for her, and even more special years later to coach alongside her from 2012 to 2015.

After earning my degree in education, I knew exactly where I wanted to return. I taught at Picture Rocks Elementary from 2011 and May 2025, and now I’m and Assistant Principal at Butterfield Elementary. The opportunities MUSD has given me as both a student and a staff member have helped me grow not just professionally, but personally as well.

One of the biggest differences I see in schools today is technology. I didn’t get my first cell phone until I was a senior in high school, and computer class was something you had to sign up for. Even elementary students have access to devices now. It’s a different world.

What makes MUSD special today is the opportunity. There truly is something available for every student and every staff member. I’m grateful to have grown up here, and even more grateful to continue serving the community.
