I am proud to be both a former student and current staff member of Marana Unified School District. My journey through MUSD has shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally. Today, I am a proud teacher at Play and Learn Preschool, where I have worked since 2016.

Some of my favorite memories come from my time as a student. I loved field day at Ironwood Elementary, getting a hole punch for each activity and working to complete my card was always so much fun. I also look back fondly on my experiences at Mountain View High School, especially being part of the swim team and marching band. Those programs gave me a strong sense of community and helped me build friendships that I still cherish today. I was very involved in extracurricular activities, including marching band, swim, and track. These programs helped shape my high school experience and are still thriving today.

I’ve been fortunate to learn from many incredible teachers throughout my time in MUSD. Mr. Class helped make math more engaging for me, and Mr. Thrall made English enjoyable with his creativity and personality. Mrs. Kirkbride was an amazing mentor and band teacher who encouraged me to always push myself. Mrs. Whitfield supported my passions and helped create a club that meant a lot to me. Mr. Kennerly, my track coach, believed in me and helped me build confidence, even though I never had him as a teacher in class.

One of the most important life lessons I learned while attending school in Marana is that I didn’t have to be the best, just putting in effort and having the right people encourage you can take you far in life.

MUSD helped prepare me for life after graduation by teaching me valuable skills like time management. In college, I was able to balance marching band, classes, a full-time job, and even involvement in a fraternity. Ultimately, those experiences led me back to MUSD as a teacher because I knew this district offered amazing opportunities and supportive educators.

One of the biggest differences I notice between my time as a student and today is the role of technology. I remember using overhead projectors, rolling in TVs to watch movies, and signing up for time in the computer lab. Today, technology is fully integrated into the classroom, and I now use tools like smartboards with my preschool students.

What I miss most about my time in MUSD are the relationships with friends, coaches, and teachers. Those connections had a lasting impact on me and are a big reason why I chose to become a teacher.

Today, what I love most about MUSD is the people. I enjoy working with dedicated colleagues, collaborating with specialists, and building meaningful connections with families. Being part of a child’s early learning journey is incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful to be able to give back to the same district that helped shape me.
