My journey with Marana Unified School District began as a student at Desert Winds Elementary. Today, I am proud to be part of the MUSD team, teaching at Picture Rocks Elementary and formerly Desert Winds Elementary since 2013.

Some of my favorite memories come from my elementary school days. I’ll never forget the spring carnivals, where one year we even had a circus set up on the field. It was such a fun and exciting experience that brought the whole school community together. Field Day was another highlight, and I love that it’s still a tradition at Picture Rocks today.

When I think back on what inspired me as a student, I immediately remember my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Colonic. She made learning fun and sparked my passion for writing. I loved creating books in her class, and it was during that time that I also discovered a love for poetry.

As I got older, I found another passion in music. Being part of the jazz band in middle school was something I truly enjoyed and gave me another way to express myself and connect with others.

Over the years, I’ve watched Marana grow and change. What once felt like a small, close-knit town has expanded so much. I remember having soccer practice at Ora Mae Harn Park, going to the community pool, and seeing only a handful of businesses nearby. Today, the area has grown into a thriving community with so many more opportunities and resources. Even with all the growth, what has always stood out to me about MUSD is the sense of connection and tradition.
