Looking Back 2023: Investments in the District
Voter-approved Prop. 491 ensures that all Marana Schools’ students have access to a 21st-century learning experience and technology provided in a safe and secure environment.
Voters in the Marana community approved MUSD’s $90 million capital improvement bond Proposition 491 in 2022, focusing on District-wide improvements addressing growth, enhanced security, campus safety and technology, campus improvements and renovations, and support of our large transportation fleet.
In 2023, we completed multiple projects we are excited to share:
DISTRICT IMPROVEMENTS
Information Technology
- Upgraded the district Data Center, which supports multiple student and employee data systems and applications
- Increased number of Wireless Access Points
Transportation
- Purchased six buses, five minivans, and two special needs buses
Security improvements
- Windows - replaced dated windows with durable security windows
- Alarms - updated school sites’ security alarm systems
- Cameras - updated current security camera system and increased cameras in high-traffic areas at schools lacking them
- Fencing - perimeter fencing upgrades completed at multiple campuses
- School Intercom Systems - replaced systems at several schools
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS
Marana High School
- Replaced athletic track
- Replaced athletic turf
Mountain View High School
- Resurfaced athletic track
- Replaced athletic turf
Play and Learn (PAL) Preschool
- Increased security cameras and lights
- Replaced playground equipment
- Added perimeter fencing
- Installed new carpeting and low-maintenance flooring
- Renovated bathrooms for increased student accessibility
- Front entrance remodeled for increased security
Gladden Farms Elementary Adds "E" Building
Last fall, Gladden Farms Elementary opened the new “E Building” to students! The E building houses four sixth-grade classrooms plus two classes for students with special needs. The E building is located on the southeast corner of the school campus and was constructed by ESB Design + Build.
“We are the largest K-6 school in the district and we continue to grow rapidly, said Ms. Naya Persaud, principal of Gladden Farms. “Our parents were excited to see the rooms and the space.”
In fall 2025, the school will be working as a community to put their garden back together and to beautify the space near the building.

Planning is underway for the following district-wide projects:
- Renovating multiple bathrooms at Marana High, Mountain View High, Marana Middle, and Tortolita Middle Schools
- Remodeling auditoriums at Marana High, Mountain View High, and Marana Middle
- $325,000+ in playground renovations at:
