MHS Students Attend Arizona Governor’s Reception

A group of Marana High School students had the unique opportunity to attend the Arizona Governor’s State Report Reception hosted by Governor Katie Hobbs. Students in attendance included Michael Bernstein, Gavin DeHaro, Leah Hindman, Taylor Olsen, Bria Papin, Alexi Powell Escalante, MJ Rojel, Xander Ultsch, Layla Unger, and Nikza Valle Othon, alongside Principal Caitlyn Kauffman.
During the event, students had the chance to ask thoughtful questions on topics such as state safety, funding for public education, and advice on pursuing leadership or government careers. This interaction provided students with a valuable learning experience aimed at deepening their understanding of government processes and leadership opportunities.
Following the group discussions, students listened to the Governor’s State Address, an annual event that allows Governor Hobbs to share updates on Arizona’s priorities, accomplishments, and vision for the year ahead. The reception brought together leaders and community members from across the Southern Arizona region, giving students a firsthand look at civic engagement in action.
Participation in events like this underscores MHS’s commitment to empowering students to explore leadership, engage in government, and gain insights into how public policy shapes their communities.
