The Marana Unified School District announces the selection of Mrs. Michelle Bergesen as Principal of Estes Elementary School.

The MUSD Governing Board members voted during their March 14 meeting in favor of hiring Mrs. Bergesen for the role. Mrs. Bergesen will assume the position as principal effective July 1, 2024. Mrs. Colleen Frederick is currently the principal.

Mrs. Bergesen was selected following an extensive interview process with the Estes Elementary School Principal Selection Committee, as well as the finalist interviews with Dr. Lopez, Governing Board President.

Mrs. Bergesen currently serves as an Instructional Coordinator in the Educational Services Department. The District originally hired her in 1998 as a teacher for Desert Winds Elementary, which has since closed.  Additional positions she has held at MUSD during her career include instructional coach, teacher induction coach, and literacy coach.

Mrs. Bergesen received her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the Grand Canyon University in 2015. She also holds certificates of Standard Professional Principal for PreK-12 and Standard Professional Elementary in K-8. Mrs. Bergesen was honored in 2023 as MUSD’s Exempt Employee of the Year.

Dr. Dan Streeter, Superintendent of MUSD added, “Mrs. Bergesen has consistently exhibited exceptional instructional leadership capabilities, a strong dedication to academic excellence, and an authentic enthusiasm for nurturing a positive learning atmosphere. Her extensive background in education and MUSD, coupled with her strengths in fostering meaningful connections, will make her the ideal candidate to guide Estes Elementary School toward its next phase of achievement.”
