Picture Rocks Elementary Honored with Arizona PBIS Coalition Model School Award!

Marana Unified School District proudly celebrates Picture Rocks Elementary School for being named a recipient of the Arizona PBIS Coalition Model School Award, a remarkable honor that reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

The Arizona PBIS Coalition Achievement Award recognizes schools that go above and beyond in implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to achieve measurable outcomes for students. This prestigious Model School designation highlights Picture Rocks’ dedication to providing the right support for students, using data to guide decisions that reduce behavioral challenges, increase academic achievement, and celebrate positive behaviors.

Judges were deeply impressed by the school’s teamwork, the dedication of both students and staff during interviews, and Picture Rocks’ exceptional use of data to strengthen student support systems. Their thoughtful and consistent approach to PBIS demonstrates the school’s leadership in fostering a culture where every student feels valued, supported, and set up for success.

Becoming a Model School is no easy feat, only four of the ten Arizona schools that applied received this high honor. To even be considered, schools must first earn the Level 4 PBIS Award, demonstrating fidelity in PBIS implementation. The review process includes visits by representatives from the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona PBIS Coalition, who conduct:

• Interviews with administrators and PBIS Tier I, II, and III team representatives
• Assessments using the ISSET and SET evaluation tools
• School-wide walkthroughs with student and staff interviews
• A detailed review of documentation and discipline data
