“Wings Over Marana” Sculpture Revealed at Marana Regional Airport!
Thanks to a longstanding partnership between the Marana High School Welding Program and the Town of Marana that brings public art to life through the hands of our talented youth, the “Wings Over Marana” sculpture is the newest public art piece installed at the Marana Regional Airport. The sculpture was revealed to the public during a special event in June 2025.
Marana USD proudly recognizes the exceptional students behind this year’s installation: Gabriel Avenenti, Brandon Gilbert, Brayden Riggs, and Aleksandria Gabbard. Their commitment, creativity, and craftsmanship are evident in every weld and curve. Through countless hours of planning, designing, fabricating, and finishing, these students transformed raw materials into a powerful and lasting piece of public art that reflects both the spirit of Marana and the soaring potential of our hard-working students.
This sculpture adds to a proud tradition of MHS student-made public art, including:
“Deer at Tangerine Sky Park” (2017): A sculpted family of deer on Tangerine Road, west of Thornydale Road
“Big Year” (2022): Two graceful birds, one lifting into flight, located near Ina and Silverbell
“Spirit of Marana” (2022): A dynamic cowboy on horseback with cattle and saguaros, placed in the heart of Old Marana
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated educators who make this possible:
Mario Favela, Brett Fischer, and Rebekah Morgan, your mentorship empowers students to become both skilled tradespeople and inspired creators.
