Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona recently awarded Lee Schutt, DeGrazia Elementary Physical Education and Health Teacher, a $5,000 grant for his school to fund health-related programs.
The grant was awarded based on the winners’ exceptional execution of the 2018 Walk On!
Challenge. Mr. Schutt worked with 4th and 5th grade DeGrazia students in which 76 students tracked their health and exercise for the month of February. When fourth- and fifth-graders accepted the Walk On! Challenge, they agreed to track how many minutes they exercise, how many fruits and vegetables they eat, how much screen time they get and how many sweetened drinks they have every day in the month of February.
The Walk On! Challenge is part of Nourishing Arizona, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona’s initiative to improve the health of Arizonans through nutrition education and healthy eating programs. It is a fun, educational program designed to motivate fourth- and fifth-graders across Arizona to make healthy choices in the fight against obesity.
