MUSD Welcomes New Board Member, Ms. Mikronis

 Ms. Kathryn MikronisMs. Kathryn Mikronis, a widowed mother of two children residing in Marana for the past 20 years, has been officially sworn in as a new Governing Board member for the Marana Unified School District (MUSD).

Additionally, Mr. Tom Carlson, a returning board member who was re-elected this past November, was sworn in alongside Ms. Mikronis during the regular/reorganizational Governing Board meeting on January 12, 2023.

Both members had been officially sworn in prior to the January Board meeting in December, and were completing a ceremonial oath. Ms. Mikronis and Mr. Carlson will retain their seat for four years, through December 31, 2026.

Ms. Mikronis shared that she has fostered a strong relationship with the Marana Unified School District for 17 years, where both of her children have attended Marana Schools. She has been an active school volunteer within the district for 15 years, serving as a volunteer parent in the classroom, and an officer of the PTO board at Coyote Trail Elementary.  

Ms. Mikronis has been an active community member in various other volunteer organizations, serving on the board of the Autism Society of Southern Arizona for 10 years, a board member for the local Rainbow Girls Assembly for 12+ years, a past Girl Scout leader for 8 years, a graduate of Partners in a Policymaking and Leadership, and two years of service on the Governor’s Council on Disabilities. 

“I am thrilled to be a part of the Marana Unified School District Governing Board. When I think of the opportunity I have with Marana Schools, I think Nelson Mandela said it best, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change world,’” Ms. Mikronis said.
