Leah Oliver, MVHS Sports Medicine Teacher; Finalist for the 2020 Woman of Influence Awards

Ms. Oliver has been ranked in the top three in the Education Champion category and will be honored by Inside Tucson Business publication at a special dinner and awards event on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. 

Leah Oliver graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in exercise sports science and education and is the Certified Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine teacher at Mountain View High School. She has worked at Mountain View in the Marana Unified School District since 1989. Ms. Oliver serves as the department chair for Mountain View’s Career and Technical Education Department. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Athletic Trainers Association. Her dedication and passion were instrumental in the District’s procurement of external defibrillators. She serves as an American Red Cross instructor working diligently to train all of her students in CPR and AED use.

Ms. Oliver has been recognized for her leadership and dedication through numerous awards and honors. In 2010-2011 Ms. Oliver was honored with the Arizona Athletic Trainers’ Association, Athletic Trainer of the Year Service Award and was selected as MUSD’s Teacher of the Year. In 2013, Ms. Oliver was inducted into the Arizona Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, becoming the first woman inducted. In 2017, Leah Oliver received the National Athletic Trainers Association Athletic Trainer Service Award; this prestigious national award recognizes 34 National Athletic Trainers Association members for their exceptional contributions to the athletic training profession and the Association. Ms. Oliver was named a Top 10 Teacher in the 2018 Arizona Educational Foundation Teacher of the Year program where she was spotlighted for her exceptionally skilled and dedicated contributions as a public school teacher. In 2018, Ms. Oliver was honored again for her distinguished service to education and to the community when she received the Metropolitan Education Commission Crystal Apple Teacher Award.

In addition, her programs have resulted in 22 Lanny Williams Arizona Student Athletic Trainer Interns of the Year as well as multiple former students who have gone on to various medical related fields in the health care profession. Her Sports Medicine program is the most award-winning in the state. 

The Woman of Influence prestigious award, given by Inside Tucson Business publication, has been highly recognized throughout the Tucson business community for the past 15 years.
