Colleen Allen: 2019 District Spelling Bee Champion!

Congratulations Colleen Allen, 7th grade student at Tortolita Middle School, who became the Marana Unified School District’s spelling bee champion in the 15th round. After a spell off between the final two spellers, the Tortolita Middle School student correctly spelled the final word “polymer” after respelling the word “maraca” which was spelled incorrectly by her opponent.  Congratulate Colleen on Facebook!

The District Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium at Mountain View High School, 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd. Tucson 85742.

Over 5,500 Marana Unified School District students, representing twelve elementary schools and two middle schools, competed in classroom and school spelling bees over the past two months in order to be one of the 30 spellers competing at the Marana district Bee.

Colleen Allen will be joined by the next three top contestants, and alternate, at the Pima County Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10:00am at Canyon Del Oro Auditorium, 25 W Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ 85704.

1st Place:                      Colleen Allen, Tortolita Middle School, 7th grade
2nd Place:                     William Parry, Marana Middle School, 7th grade
3rd Place:                      Coral Christensen, Ironwood Elementary School, 6th grade
4th Place:                      Brady Mau, Ironwood Elementary School, 6th grade
5th Place/Alternate       Callie Bergesen, Gladden Farms Elementary School, 6th grade
