MUSD Support Staff of the Year: Mary Butler, Roadrunner Elementary School, Health Aide

IMAGE: Mary Butler, SUpport Staff of the Year with Superintendent Dr. WIlson. Mary Butler is unfailingly kind, compassionate, and genuinely concerned about all students. As a 23 year employee with the Marana district, she consistently goes above and beyond to seek medical resources for students without access to healthcare, to educate individual students regarding medical conditions, and to speak to classrooms in order to explain how fellow classmates can help their peers. Ms. Butler has the ability to transform her approach to suit each student's individual needs and unique personality, recognizing that what works for one student does not work for all. She has an amazing ability to provide the structure needed while giving support and compassion when attending to the medical needs of her students.

Ms. Butler gives selflessly of her time, spending numerous hours assisting students with various health concerns so they are able to remain in school. She has even gone so far as to attend doctor's appointments with a student at the request of a parent, in an effort to learn more about the students medical condition and be able to adequately meet the medical needs of the child while in school.

Not only is she passionate and dedicated to students’ health needs, Ms. Butler works tirelessly to provide resources and activities for students and families including planning an amazing Open House and Resource Fair where families received important health and welfare information and had a wonderful time together! In addition to the Fair, each year Ms. Butler is dedicated to the Holiday Share program where she works to ensure over 100 students are adopted for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her energy and commitment is endless! She also organizes a clothing bank, works with families to update immunizations, brings dentists to the school campus, and many other behind the scene activities.

In addition to her duties at Roadrunner, Ms. Butler also serves as a mentor to new staff members in the Health Services Department. She collaborates with her colleagues and willingly shares her knowledge and expertise.

Mary Butler is highly cherished by her school community and is an exceptional individual with a giving heart. Congratulations!
