Three MMS Finalists in Tucson Birthday Stamp Design Contest!

IMAGE: Three MMS Students with artwork for postal contest. Congratulations to three former Marana Middle School art students, and educator Ms. Tyree! Several of Ms. Tyree’s art students participated in the Postal History Foundation 12th Annual Tucson Birthday Stamp Design Contest last spring, where art celebrates Tucson’s birthday. The contest was to come up with a design that would symbolize Tucson in celebrating its 244th birthday on August 20th, 2019.

Students from Ms. Tyree’s class created both drawings and paintings, in varying types of material, at the end of last school year. Submissions with permissions were submitted at the end of the school year, and finalists from three age groups; 5-8, 9-12 & 13-17 were chosen the first week of August.

From over 150 entries, two MMS students were recognized as semi-finalists, and one MMS student placed as honorable mention, during a ceremony on Aug 20th!

Congratulations to these outstanding artists who represented Marana Schools as three of the final five finalists in the 13-17 age group!

  • Alyssa O’Haver  - 1st Place (Now at Marana High School)
  • Carlie Marlow – 4th Place (Now at Mountain View High School)
  • Lydia Robertson – honorable mention (5th Place) (Now at Marana High School)

Each student was given a Bookmans gift certificate, collectable stamps, and other prizes. Alyssa O’Haver was also selected as one of six designs selected and printed as collectible art work on envelopes used to commemorate the event.

Congratulations to these wonderful artists, and thank you for representing Marana schools!
