Mountain View High School Teacher Named Finalist for the Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program

Congratulations to Jill Hurt, selected as a finalist for the 25th annual Arizona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program presented by Arizona Online. This prestigious program honors outstanding high school teachers in Southern Arizona.

As a Speech Language Pathologist and an instructional leader at Mountain View High School, Ms. Hurt goes above and beyond to help every child on her caseload become an effective communicator and thinker. Students benefit from not only Ms. Hurt’s instruction, but also from the environment she provides. She understands that strong and effective teaching reaches far beyond the classroom setting. By monitoring students’ abilities in life skill application in “real life situations”, Ms. Hurt invests herself in her student’s lives and helps them to reach the next step of their personal growth. She is understanding and compassionate, while providing innovative tasks that engage students. Through the use of data, strong instruction, and a compassionate heart her students grow socially, emotionally, and academically.   

Students and colleagues flock to Ms. Hurt for her advice, her ability to reflectively listen, and her problem-solving skills. She is able to create out of the box ideas, predict situations and brainstorm possible solutions and outcomes. Her passion and tenacity leads to implementation of solutions and positive change. In addition to carrying the largest caseload in the school district, she is always there to help complete needed assessments, provide mentorship, and guide new members in the field. Ms. Hurt is a servant leader who defines exceptional.    

Ms. Hurt will be honored at a pre-game recognition ceremony at the University of Arizona men’s basketball game on Thursday, February 21. She will also be recognized at a special Awards Banquet held at the UA Hall of Champions on Friday, March 8, where the Teacher of the Year will be announced.
