Twenty-five Roadrunner students grades 4-6, arrived at Walmart Supercenter, Oro Valley Marketplace, at 9:30am. Elks Lodge volunteers greeted students and personally assisted each student with their clothes and shoe purchases. The Lodge donated $140 per child for purchasing new clothing and shoes.

Following the shopping spree, Roadrunner students attended an Easter luncheon party at Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge in Catalina where students were visited by the Easter bunny distributing school supplies, gifts and Easter baskets! Also during the luncheon, students learned about the importance of making healthy choices and drug prevention from an Oro Valley Sheriff Department representative.

Joyce Garcia, event chairperson of Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge said, “This is the first time our Lodge is hosting this event in the spring. For the past twelve years, we have greatly enjoyed offering a special Holiday shopping spree for Roadrunner students in December. It always fills our heart to give back to these students. These students are so appreciative, and it is delightful to see what a difference it makes when children are together and experience something that we hope they will remember for years to come.” IMAGE: Male Roadrunner student with Elks Lodge Volunteer shopping for clothing.

“The heartfelt generosity that is continually shown by these wonderful Elks Lodge members makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our students,” says Kristina Brewer, Roadrunner Elementary principal. “It is incredibly uplifting and touching to see the joy on our student’s faces and hear their laughter as they pick out clothes and enjoy being together outside of the school day.”

Roadrunner Elementary, within Marana Unified School District, is a K-6 public elementary school serving approximately 380 students.
