Mr. Dan Johnson, Principal of Coyote Trail Elementary School, has been “belled” by Ben’s Bells, a local organization that celebrates the positive impacts of intentional kindness. Mr. Johnson was nominated by Saralee Burkett, a special education teacher at Coyote Trail.
“I enthusiastically nominate Dan Johnson, Principal of Coyote Trail Elementary School, for selection of a Ben's Bell. He is from a small town in Colorado and has, over the years, enhanced the natural environment of our school grounds. Under his supervision, fruit trees and flowers have been planted. A lovely walled enclosure has been made which houses our desert tortoise, Flash. Most recently, a beautiful chicken coop in the style of a one-room schoolhouse has been added containing a rooster and hens. His beautification projects would have been endorsed by Lady Bird Johnson.”
Ms. Burkett shared that it is how he has used these efforts that make the difference for students.
“As a positive behavior incentive, our special needs students can earn a trip to the chicken coop with Mr. Johnson. Daily, he takes time out of his busy schedule and makes a special trip to the chicken coop with the students who have earned that reward. To see the anticipation, excitement and joy on our students' faces warrants recognition for this community-minded principal."
It is a well-deserved award and we thank Mr. Johnson for his kindness and commitment to creating a welcoming school!
