Mask Update: September 29, 2021

September 29, 2021

MUSD Families and Staff,

This evening the Marana Unified School District Governing Board convened a Special Meeting to consider a decision regarding the use of face coverings in Marana schools. During the meeting, the MUSD Governing Board adjourned with no action taken on a motion. MUSD therefore will continue to allow masks to be optional for individuals throughout the District.

As we have stated in prior communications, since the beginning of the school year, and while the mask requirement has been in place, the District has experienced a downward trend in cases and a reduction in the transmission of COVID. This has resulted in more students staying healthy and subsequently in school due to reduced exposures. This has taken place at a time in which our community continues to experience a high transmission rate.

With this information, the administration strongly recommends that all teachers, staff members, students and visitors on campus continue to wear a mask when indoors regardless of vaccination status until Pima County moves out of a high transmission status. We will continue our effective mitigation strategies of cleaning high touch points regularly, encouraging good hand hygiene and maintaining physical distance when possible. Our goal is to stay focused on advancing K-12 education in Marana while keeping our students healthy, engaged with learning and school activities, and attending in-person. Our students need us to work together with families, staff and the community toward this common goal.

Thank you for your support of our students and staff as we work together to provide the best in-person learning opportunities for our students in MUSD.
