Letter to Preschool Parents - December 11, 2020
Dear MUSD Preschool Parents,
There is a new Arizona Department of Health Emergency Measure (2020-04) that requires students over the age of two to wear a mask. As a result, we will need you to begin sending masks with your student to preschool effective immediately. We will provide disposable masks for students who do not bring one or in case they lose their mask during the day.
We are aware that some preschool students may struggle wearing their masks. We want to reassure you that we have provided teachers with several resources to assist them with helping our kids with this new public health requirement. We also want to share these helpful resources with you and your student:
- Resource on Face Masks for Children: contains resources including a comprehensive "Mask Wearing Toolkit" and several social stories
- Helping Students Understand How to Wear a Mask: a series of videos for students to watch with several aimed specifically at younger students
- Julia from Sesame Street - Practice Wearing a Mask: video put together by Sesame Street to support mask wearing for little ones
For students with speech difficulties, we are ordering face shields for them to use during speech therapy. We are also ordering break-away lanyards that we hope to have in early January. The lanyards will help keep masks from falling on the floor and prevent children from trying to share masks.
We want to keep all of our students and staff safe. This is definitely a work in progress, and we are here to help. We appreciate your assistance with this new protocol to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in schools.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
