Library Week – Thank You MUSD Librarians!
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week (April 23 - 29, 2023) is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. An annual celebration of the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians, National Library Week promotes library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.
Tuesday, April 25 is specifically designated as National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and groups to celebrate the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
MUSD would like to recognize and thank our essential team of school Librarians/Media Specialists throughout the District. Reading is such a vital element of student success, and these individuals play an important role in fostering a love of reading in our students, starting in kindergarten, and going all the way to graduation!
MUSD proudly employs 16 librarians – one at every school. Our school librarians are varied in responsibilities, holding titles that require certification and/or a media background. As certified Librarians / Media Specialists / Media Technicians, our team is truly something to celebrate. Champions of literacy, they continue to embrace the technological changes of their position, while also embracing the sense of community that a library provides. Just like every MUSD school is unique, each library and librarian is unique. Our librarians enjoy getting to know their schools and students, as they participate in literacy night, love of reading week, book fairs, reading challenges, afterschool programs, and more.
