Earth Day is Everyday at Marana Schools!
Earth Day is Saturday, April 22, and the Marana Unified School District has a lot to celebrate with our energy saving programs, and district-wide employee energy saving efforts!
From our first solar panel installations at Estes, Ironwood, Quail Run, Coyote Trail, Twin Peaks, and Butterfield Elementary Schools, Marana Middle School, and MCAT High School in 2013 – to our most recent March 2023 Energy Saver School winner, Rattlesnake Ridge – the District now boasts over $7 million in savings! A savings this significant equates to a reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to 3,960 passenger cars not driven for one year, or 487,341 tree seedlings grown for 10 years!
With the cost of utilities being one of the largest budget line-items for the District, and the prices for electricity, natural gas, and water steadily increasing, MUSD continues to embrace energy conservation and believes that it is our responsibility to ensure that every reasonable effort is made to conserve energy and natural resources while exercising sound financial management.
Not only are MUSD’s sustainable energy programs designed to help the District save money for years to come, many would not be possible without the consistent support of our educators and staff members. Our sincerest thanks to all of Marana Schools’ Earth Day heroes, who help conserve our resources year-round, so we can put those dollars back into educating one of our largest resources for the future – our students!
