Butterfield Elementary Receives "B" Letter Grade
The Arizona State Board of Education has released their 2018-2019 Letter Grade Score (A-F) for every school in the state, and Butterfield Elementary has again received a letter grade of “B”! This letter grade represents a highly performing level of performance.
Joshua Bayne, principal, states, "We are proud of this grade and the talented and dedicated teachers and staff who work tirelessly for our students and school. While our focus on student achievement is above performance standards, we recognize that there is always more work to be done."
Bayne further states, "While we recognize that a letter grade is only one variable and not reflective of everything happening at Butterfield, we are proud of our hard-working students, who give their best and push themselves to improve each day. We also take pride in our talented and dedicated teachers and support staff, who work tirelessly and are committed to their classroom communities and the individual growth of every student, every day. In an effort to continue to stretch and grow this year, we have transitioned to a school-wide Title 1 reading and math program, allowing us to support every student, at every grade level. We continue to use Eureka Math, having seen improvement with our student’s ability to grasp math concepts, and the Guided Reading model, which includes small group reading instruction at each student’s instructional level. As a staff, our professional learning focus this year is writing, and we meet twice a month to learn and grow from each other and our classroom experiences. We continue to embrace high expectations, create accountability and use student work as a means to improve academic achievement. We also have additional resources for academic support, such as after-school tutoring, individualized instruction and interventions, and school leadership opportunities. Finally, and most importantly, we continue to celebrate success and spotlight both individual and group accomplishments of our students, staff, and community.
